Fairfax County Special Education PTA (SEPTA) is delighted to announce the award of nine Fall Mini-Grants to teachers and staff supporting students with disabilities throughout the county.

Fall 2023 Mini-Grant Winners are:

Fairfax County SEPTA Mini-Grants are for SEPTA member teachers or staff to implement programs, attend professional development, or obtain materials designed to support students with disabilities. All current SEPTA members who are FCPS employees are eligible to apply, with applications accepted two times this year in Fall and Spring. 

We are delighted to support educators in their innovative work serving students with disabilities this year. Grantees will implement programs including:

  • Flexible seating across three classrooms to support students with disabilities in a general education setting
  • Supporting a school counselor office by providing books and workbooks on the topic of executive functioning 
  • Additional classroom materials – including sensory boards and books on social skills and growth mindset
  • Sensory buckets and STEAM materials for a preschool special education classroom
  • Increasing reading skills by supplementing a literacy lab with high interest reading books at a public day high school
  • Access to outdoor learning for all students with the development of a sensory garden including a sound wall   
  • Increase social interactions and inclusion opportunities through the purchase of a sensory table for a kindergarten classroom
  • Increase sustained attention and reduce distractions through providing sensory materials and various classroom level supports for students with various learning needs
  • Install a permanent or semi-permanent AAC board on the school playground to allow for multi-modal communication for dual language learners and peer to peer communication
